Accra: In a remarkable philanthropic effort, YouTube sensation Jimmy Donaldson, globally recognized as MrBeast, has successfully established a self-sustaining community in Ghana, valued at nearly $10 million. This ambitious project, known as Abna Dakwa Village, aims to eradicate poverty and illegal child labor in the cocoa-farming regions of West Africa.
According to Ghana Web, the initiative was part of MrBeast's 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign, which he launched in January 2026. This global social movement seeks to leverage the influence of digital creators to enact positive change across communities worldwide. The project in Ghana involved 20 content creators partnering with MrBeast to enhance essential services in the region.
The development of the village began with the construction of a state-of-the-art school, designed to provide education for over 300 children. The project also included the building of ten free homes to attract and retain qualified educators. In addition, two large clean water towers and an off-grid solar energy grid were established to ensure the village's energy independence.
A crucial element of the project was the renovation of a bridge connecting the community to the school, ensuring the safe passage of children. Beyond educational facilities, MrBeast's initiative also featured the construction of a medical clinic and a central community marketplace to boost local trade. Agricultural facilities and commercial fish tanks were also introduced to ensure steady food production and revenue.
To further support the community, MrBeast collaborated with global philanthropic partners, including The Rockefeller Foundation, to provide free daily meals for every student over the next five years. This collaboration aims to alleviate the financial burden on local families, enabling children to attend school instead of working on cocoa farms.
The project's implementation involved over a year of planning and coordination with international development partners, such as the 1 Billion Followers Summit, the Varkey Foundation, and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet. Ten content creators, including Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya, joined forces with local workers to bring the vision to life.
The international community and YouTube audiences have largely reacted positively to the project, commending MrBeast for his impactful investment. However, the initiative has also sparked discussions about governmental spending priorities, with many questioning why such transformative projects are not more frequently undertaken by local authorities.
