Koforidua: An alleged audio conversation that resulted in the suspension of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Officer for the Oda Constituency has surfaced online. The officer is reportedly heard advising a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) member who recently joined the NDC that her decision was misguided.
According to Ghana Web, the audio, lasting nearly six minutes, features the officer cautioning the woman, referred to as Afia, about her choice to switch allegiance to the NDC. In response to the audio, a press release dated January 21, 2026, and signed by Eastern Regional Secretary Jamal Konneh, revealed that the comments made by the officer, Benjamin, were contrary to the party's outreach and expansion objectives. The National Democratic Congress claims to have become one of Africa's most attractive political parties in recent years.
During a virtual meeting on January 21, 2026, the Eastern Regional Executive Committee decided to suspend Benjamin immediately. The case has been referred to the Regional Disciplinary Committee for a thorough investigation and determination. The party's statement emphasized that the suspension was in accordance with Article 48 of the Party's Constitution, with a directive for Benjamin to surrender all party properties to the constituency secretary.
The suspended officer is expected to appear before the Regional Disciplinary Committee to address the allegations, after which the committee will present its findings and recommendations to the Eastern Regional Executive Committee.
