Accra: Alhaji Inusa Fuseini, a former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, emphasized the significant role of the construction sector in fostering economic growth and development during his representation of the National Democratic Congress’s Flagbearer at the 2024 Annual General meeting and Conference of the Ghana Chamber of Construction.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Fuseini highlighted the necessity for policymakers to collaborate closely with sector players to ensure coordinated development. He stressed that the construction sector’s role was crucial for sustainable infrastructure development, particularly in relation to climate adaptation strategies, which was the theme of the conference. He outlined the party’s commitment to address the current unstructured development by proposing pragmatic solutions, including a 10-billion-dollar fund aimed at boosting physical infrastructure projects.
The former minister also detailed plans under the next NDC government to develop a comprehensive data
base of all uncompleted or abandoned projects, assess their economic viability, and push for their completion to benefit the Ghanaian populace. Additionally, he mentioned initiatives to extend rail lines, enhance water systems, and promote the development of solar products through research.
Nana Osei-Bonsu, President of the Private Enterprise Federation, also spoke at the conference, advocating for the use of local construction materials to combat climate change effects and address the country’s housing deficit. He called for intensified advocacy to ensure new buildings incorporate bricks and other local materials.
The conference also included a session where students from various technical institutions showcased their Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills. A plenary discussion underscored the need for increased investment in the TVET sector and the inclusion of more females to dismantle long-standing myths and stereotypes that hinder their participation.
