Alex Apau Dadey Highlights Need for African Business Champions at 2026 African Prosperity Dialogue

Accra: The Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, has highlighted the crucial role of African-owned enterprises in the continent's economic transformation, emphasizing that Africa's future prosperity hinges on the development and protection of these businesses.

According to Ghana Web, during his address at the African Prosperity Dialogue 2026, Dadey stressed the importance of nurturing strong African business champions capable of competing globally. He argued that sustainable growth, industrialization, and long-term prosperity across Africa are contingent upon businesses that can scale beyond local markets, adhere to global standards, and attract international investment. He noted that while Africa does not lack entrepreneurial talent or innovative ideas, the continent struggles with scaling these innovations and protecting successful businesses from failure.

Dadey pointed out that African entrepreneurs face significant challenges, such as scrutiny and destabilization, as their businesses become competitive. He emphasized that the goal of building African champions is not about exclusion but about fostering inclusion and ownership in global value chains. Local business champions, he argued, should be seen as stabilizing forces within African economies rather than merely wealthy individuals.

Furthermore, Dadey called for a reevaluation of public-private partnerships (PPPs) on the continent. He urged the private sector to expand its role beyond commercial engagements, advocating for responsible corporate citizenship and long-term investment. He also warned that African enterprises face subtle threats in the modern economy, where businesses are dismantled through reputational and regulatory pressures rather than force. He urged African businesses to maintain control of their narratives to avoid these pitfalls.
