Akatsi: The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has intensified efforts to boost agriculture and household incomes through targeted interventions, including the distribution of poultry inputs under the 'Akoko Nkitinkiti' programme. Mr. Daniel Dagba, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, highlighted that the Assembly had procured 10,000 day-old chicks, 454 bags of 50kg poultry feed, and essential logistics to support the initial management of the birds.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Dagba made this announcement during a Sessional Address at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Assembly held in Akatsi. He explained that a farmer is currently brooding the chicks, which are slated to be distributed to 200 beneficiary households within a month. Each household is set to receive 50 birds as part of the initiative aimed at improving food security, promoting agribusiness, and creating employment opportunities, especially for the youth.
Mr. Dagba emphasized that farmers in Akatsi South benefit from extension services, access to improved seeds and fertilizers, and technical education on climate-smart agriculture through the Department of Agriculture. He urged residents, particularly the youth, to leverage such programmes for livelihood enhancement and local economic growth.
In other sectors, the municipality has reported improvements in its Internally Generated Fund (IGF), surpassing its 2025 revenue target. The actual mobilisation amounted to GHS1,643,792.08, exceeding the projected GHS1,399,318.50. These financial gains have facilitated the settlement of outstanding debts, payment of end-of-service benefits to Assembly Members, and a reduction in salary arrears of staff paid from IGF.
Progress has also been made in the health sector with the construction of CHPS compounds at Zuta and Ahipeado. A similar facility at Asafotsi has been completed and is soon to be operational. Additionally, several classroom blocks are at various stages of completion across the municipality, aimed at improving access to quality education.
Mr. Dagba reiterated the Assembly's commitment to enhancing road infrastructure, water supply, and social protection programmes to better living conditions. He called for ongoing collaboration among stakeholders to sustain development and build a more prosperous municipality.
