Akan: A total of 645 delegates are expected to vote in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential primaries in the Akan Constituency of the Oti Region on Saturday, January 31. The delegates are made up of two former parliamentary candidates, two former District Chief Executives, 18 former constituency executives, and 10 members of the Council of Elders and patrons.
According to Ghana News Agency, the remaining delegates include 561 polling station executives, 36 electoral area coordinators, and 16 constituency executives. Mr Abdul Merigah Sataru, Akan Constituency Secretary of the NPP, disclosed this information in a telephone interview. The voting is set to take place at the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC) Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall.
Mr Sataru emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and order during the voting process. He urged delegates to conduct themselves appropriately before, during, and after the polls, noting that the primaries are a family contest that should proceed peacefully.
The candidates contesting to become the NPP's flagbearer for the 2028 general elections include Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice-President of Ghana; Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Agriculture and MP for Abetifi; Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kuffour; and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe.
