Accra: The Agyeman-Rawlings Family has visited General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, a former Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) Member, to console him and his family over the loss of his wife, Margaret Nunoo-Mensah, who passed away in February.
According to Ghana News Agency, the visit was led by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle. The delegation also included Madam Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings and Madam Amina Agyeman-Rawlings. During the visit, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized the importance of honoring longstanding relationships between the two families. "We are here because we understand the true value of friendship and we do express our sincere condolences to the family. Relationships matter; friendship matters," she stated.
General Nunoo-Mensah, who served as Chief of Defence Staff during the PNDC era and later as National Security Advisor under President John Evans Atta Mills, expressed his gratitude for the visit. He shared fond memories of his special relationship with the late President Jerry John Rawlings, which further underscored the historical ties between the two families. "I am very grateful," he expressed.
The meeting was attended by General Nunoo-Mensah's children: Ben Nunoo-Mensah, Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, Fred Nunoo-Mensah, and Amanda Nunoo-Mensah. General Nunoo-Mensah's distinguished career includes his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff by the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) in 1979 and his role as a member of the PNDC which assumed power in 1981. In 2009, he was appointed National Security Advisor by President Atta Mills. General Nunoo-Mensah and Margaret Nunoo-Mensah were married on August 10, 1968.
