Agrimat Limited donates medical equipment to Tafo Government Hospital
New Tafo (E/R), Agrimat Limited, dealers in Agricultural inputs, has donated medical equipment to the Akim Tafo Government Hospital at New Tafo.
The items include BP Cuffs- both manual and digital, wheelchairs, bedside commodes, Tele monitors and stands, hand gloves, tongue blades, surgical shoe covers and surgical gowns.
Others are digital thermometers, IV poles, Pulse Oximeter, Ultrasound Doppler, Otoscopes and surgical masks.
The Tafo Hospital, which was established in 1952 as a clinic to serve the staff and family members of the Cocoa Research Institute and later upgraded to the status of a District Hospital, is bedeviled with several challenges.
The most eminent challenges faced by the facility are infrastructure development and lack of adequate equipment to stock its laboratory and theatre.
The facility serves people in Tafo, Kukurantumi and other neighboring communities.
Speaking to the media in an interview after the donation, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Joseph Tambil said the children’s ward is not conducive for them, because the ward is small and as a result the place is always overcrowded.
This, he said, has led to the admission of children over 6 years to the adult ward.
He said the situation tends to create lots of problems for such children who sometimes contract adult infections.
He thanked Agrimat Limited for the support adding that the equipment donated are very critical items that would help the hospital especially in emergency care.
Nana Yaw Obeng, the Managing Director of Agrimat Limited, said they decided to support the facility because they paid a visit to the hospital some months ago and were unhappy with the prevailing conditions.
Dr Prosper T. Beni, the Acting East Akim Municipal Health Director, urged the workers to take good care of the various items.
He also appealed to Agrimat to extend the support to other health facilities in other parts of the municipality.
