The Agona West Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), David Essendon, widely recognized by his alias Sam Toys, has reportedly been apprehended by a joint task force comprising police and National Security operatives.

According to Ghana Web, the arrest occurred at Essendon's home, leaving party members in disbelief. The 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Christopher Arthur, confirmed the news, revealing that the incident has shocked the party. Arthur explained that Essendon had previously received a message from Detective Inspector Eric Gyan Aboagye of the CID Headquarters Special Investigations Unit.

The message allegedly concerned a case of the publication of false news dating back to April 24, 2026, involving Essendon. It urged him to present himself to authorities by April 30, 2026, warning that failure to comply would result in an arrest warrant being issued. Arthur mentioned that the party initially suspected the message could be a fraudulent attempt, considering the rise in impersonation scams.
