Accra: Mr Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, has praised Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah for his role in advancing education through the Ho West Basic School Annual Quiz Competition. Mr Agbana made these remarks while addressing participants and stakeholders at the final stage of the Ho West Basic School Annual Quiz Competition (BaSAQ-C), held at Hlefi in the Ho West District.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Agbana, who served as the guest speaker at the event, commended Mr Bedzrah for initiating and sustaining the quiz competition over the past decade to inspire academic excellence among basic school pupils. 'God has really blessed the people of Ho West with a distinguished Member of Parliament. Many constituencies across the country wish they had a leader like him,' Mr Agbana stated.
Mr Agbana explained that despite his busy schedule in Parliament, he attended the event due to the mentorship and support he had received from Mr Bedzrah since his days as a student leader at the University of Ghana. The initiative in Ho West has inspired Mr Agbana to introduce a similar competition in his own constituency to promote academic achievement among basic school pupils. He assured attendees that Ketu North will host its first basic schools quiz competition next year.
He encouraged contestants to take the competition seriously, noting that such academic contests help build confidence, courage, and leadership skills among young learners. Mr Agbana also urged teachers to continue investing time and effort in mentoring students, emphasizing that the impact of their dedication might only become apparent in the future when learners succeed in their careers.
Additionally, Mr Agbana called on parents, communities, and corporate entities, including the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, to support the programme, highlighting education as the most reliable path to development for the Volta Region.
