Africa Poised to Host World Athletics Championships, Says Kofi Adams

Accra: Africa is ready to host the prestigious World Athletics Championships, according to Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation. Adams highlighted that countries across the continent are prepared to unite behind any nation selected to stage this global event. His remarks came during a council meeting of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), where he emphasized the importance of greater unity among African nations to elevate athletics on the continent. According to Ghana Web, Kofi Adams urged member nations to speak with one voice and think collectively as a federation, despite athletes competing under their individual national flags. The Minister pointed to Africa's growing success in hosting major athletics events, such as the World U20 Championships in Kenya, a cross-country championship in Uganda, and the recent World Relays in Botswana. He noted that these successful competitions demonstrate the continent's capacity to organize world-class events with the necessary support. Adams e xpressed confidence that with minimal federal support, Africa is ready to host the World Championships. He assured that Ghana would support any African nation granted the opportunity to host the championship and emphasized the importance of collaboration across the continent. "We will not leave that country alone. We will join hands with that country to have a successful event," he stated. The Minister also encouraged African countries to work collectively to improve sports infrastructure, insisting that a united approach would strengthen the continent's standing in global athletics. "Let our athletes compete, and let us speak as CAA," he concluded.
