Adwoa Safo Dismisses Funeral Cancellation Claims, Insists Father’s Burial on July 30

Accra: Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has hit back at claims that the burial arrangements for her late father, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, have been cancelled. She has insisted that the funeral will proceed as planned on July 30, 2026.

According to Ghana Web, Adwoa Safo emphasized that the funeral arrangements are in place, dismissing claims made by her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, Head of the Safo family. She confirmed that the burial would take place in Gomoa Mpota, followed by a funeral service at Independence Square on July 31, and a thanksgiving service in Asante Mampong, Kumasi on August 8.

Safo stated that the arrangements had been finalized after consultations with key stakeholders, including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former President John Agyekum Kufuor. She expressed frustration over what she described as a deliberate attempt to exclude her from the funeral preparations, despite her financial contributions.

"He told one of the elders to tell me that he will take care of the funeral, so I should excuse myself from it. Whatever money I've put into it, I will be settled later," she remarked, pointing out that her lawyers were informed that the family would decide on reimbursements. She added that she had received no financial assistance.

Adwoa Safo also criticized her brother's public tribute during a national cleanup exercise, questioning his understanding of the effort and cost involved in organizing the tribute billboard for their father. She accused him of failing to proceed with an earlier funeral date set for June 25, leading to the current arrangements.

In a separate disclosure, she revealed undergoing successful surgery following gunshot injuries sustained during the coronation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I.
