ADB Managing Director Lauds GEPA’s Non-Traditional Export Initiative

Accra: The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC), Edward Ato Sarpong, has commended the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) for their sustained efforts in advancing non-traditional exports (NTEs). He pledged deeper collaboration to enhance financial intermediation and accelerate economic transformation.

According to Ghana Web, Edward Ato Sarpong made the statement following the official launch of the 2025 Non-Traditional Export Statistics Report. The event was held at GEPA's Headquarters under the theme 'Driving Economic Transformation Through Strategic Export Diversification.' It brought together high-level stakeholders across government, financial institutions, and the private sector, highlighting the strategic importance of export diversification in strengthening Ghana's macroeconomic resilience.

The ADB MD praised GEPA for expanding Ghana's export base beyond traditional commodities, aligning with ADB's development mandate. He noted that the NTE sector is crucial for economic stability, significantly contributing to foreign exchange earnings and reducing vulnerability to external shocks. This sentiment was echoed in the solidarity messages within the report, which highlighted the substantial share of export earnings and diversification across agriculture, manufacturing, and services.

Emphasizing Ghana's progress in non-traditional exports, Edward Ato Sarpong acknowledged GEPA's role in building export capacity, facilitating market access, and promoting Ghanaian products globally. He noted that these efforts align with the Bank's broader agenda of fostering inclusive growth, regional integration, and sustainable industrial development across Africa.

Reinforcing this position, he pledged financial and technical support to GEPA and its partners, including potential collaboration in export financing, infrastructure development, and capacity-building initiatives. This commitment focuses on unlocking Ghana's export potential and positioning the country as a competitive player in global markets.

Edward Ato Sarpong expressed confidence in Ghana's export trajectory, emphasizing that sustained collaboration between public institutions, development partners, and the private sector is essential for long-term success. He reaffirmed the bank's unwavering support for Ghana's vision of building a resilient, diversified, and export-driven economy, aligning with ADB's new corporate tagline, 'Beyond Banking.' This tagline represents a commitment to redefining banking, empowering businesses, building futures, driving prosperity, and nurturing communities.
