Accra: The Agricultural Development Bank – Ghana (ADB) has made a significant contribution of GHS1,000,000 to the Ministry of Foods and Agriculture (MoFA) in support of the upcoming 40th National Farmers Day Celebration.
According to Ghana News Agency, the cheque is intended to be presented to the 2024 National Best Farmer during an awards night scheduled for November 8, 2024, at the Alisa Hotel in the Greater Accra Region. This year’s celebration, themed ‘Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,’ aims to honor farmers for their essential contributions to the nation’s development. ADB has played a pivotal role as the lead sponsor of this celebration over the years.
Mrs. Eno Ofori-Atta, Deputy Managing Director of ADB PLC, emphasized the bank’s dedication to boosting investment in the agricultural sector. She highlighted the bank’s focus on adapting farming systems to climate change, enhancing food security, supplying raw materials to agro-industries, and creating employment opp
ortunities for the country’s youth. She further confirmed the bank’s commitment to providing the pledged amount to the 2024 National Best Farmer for investment in technologies that aim to enhance productivity and mitigate climate-related risks.
Mr. Yaw Frimpong Addo, Deputy Minister for Crops at MoFA and Chairman of the Planning Committee, expressed gratitude to ADB PLC for consistently being the lead sponsor of the celebrations since their inception. He acknowledged the significant contributions of individuals from ADB PLC in advancing the agribusiness sector in Ghana. He also discussed the Planting for Foods and Jobs 2.0 (PFJ 2.0) initiative, which focuses on input credit and represents a major leap forward in Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
Mr. Addo underscored the crucial role of the private sector, particularly agriculture-oriented banks like ADB, in providing essential inputs for both commercial and smallholder farmers. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to advance the PFJ 2.0 initiative an
d achieve its goals by 2028. He also anticipated continued growth and transition of farmers from smallholder to medium and large-scale operations, driven by the dedication and strength of ADB’s team.
