Adansi asokwa: The Adansi Asokwa District Assembly has begun an exercise to reshape some deplorable roads in the area to bring relief to residents. The exercise, being undertaken under the Decentralized Road Improvement Project (DRIP), aims at opening up major towns and communities to ease transportation and promote rapid economic activity within the district.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Majid Governor, the Adansi Asokwa DRIP Coordinator, stated in an interview that the intervention was designed to improve accessibility, address transportation challenges, and boost local economic activities. He noted that the work had already begun in some communities, including Bodwesango and Anwiaso, and is expected to provide lasting relief to residents and commuters who have endured poor road conditions for many years.
Mr Governor emphasized that the primary objective of the exercise was to enhance rural road networks across the district to support socio-economic development. He explained that the scope of work includes re-grading, gravelling, reshaping, and spot improvements to ensure smoother and safer movement for residents, traders, and transport operators. 'So far, we have successfully regraded and reshaped the Bodwesango town roads through to the Anwiaso stretch, and the results are already visible,' he noted.
He further mentioned that the intervention forms part of a broader district-wide plan to improve road infrastructure, particularly in rural communities, where deplorable road conditions have negatively affected transportation, access to social services, and local commerce. Residents of Bodwesango and Anwiaso have welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and long overdue.
Community members shared how the poor state of the roads had previously discouraged taxi and tricycle operators from using the stretch, making movement difficult and costly. With the reshaping works now underway, residents say they were already experiencing relief. 'Now, with the reshaping, we can save money and time, and our children can also go to school safely,' one resident said.
Mr Governor appealed to traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and community representatives within the district to liaise directly with the DRIP Secretariat to access equipment and technical support. He assured residents that all communities in the Adansi Asokwa District would benefit from the ongoing road reshaping programme.
