Nzema: Adamus Resources Limited has donated 2,000 sanitary pads to basic school girls in the Nzema area to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The donation was made by Madam Angela List, Chief Executive Officer of Adamus Resources Limited, a subsidiary of Nguvu Mining Company, in partnership with the Ellembelle District Health Directorate.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was part of efforts to create awareness and educate school children on the proper use of sanitary pads during menstruation. This year's celebration is under the theme, 'Together for a friendly-period world,' focusing on promoting adolescent reproductive health.
The sensitization programme, titled 'Period positivity starts with us: support access to safe and hygienic menstrual products for all,' was led by Ms. Rebecca Armah, a public health nurse at the Ellembelle District Health Directorate. Ms. Armah advised the girls to change their pads three to four times a day during menstruation to avoid stains and odour and encouraged them to maintain a positive mindset as they approached menarche.
Speaking on behalf of Madam List, Mr. Francis Kwaw Mensah, Assembly Member for Nkroful Enlunlibo electoral area and a staff of Adamus Resources, noted that the company had been distributing menstrual pads to school children in the catchment area for the past four years. He revealed that the CEO had decided to expand the scope to cover selected schools in the Ellembelle and Nzema-East districts, with plans to distribute the pads quarterly to reach more school girls in the Nzema area.
Mr. Mensah, popularly known as Honourable Bruce, added that Madam List was dedicated to addressing issues concerning women and the girl-child, particularly adolescent reproductive health.
