ACCRA, Ghana — A businessperson has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of allegedly stealing GH?315,000.00 from another businessperson.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Abdul Razak Abdulai, aged 41, faced charges of stealing and fraudulent breach of trust to which he entered a plea of not guilty. The Court, led by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah, granted the accused bail in the sum of GH?300,000.00 with two sureties who must be justified. Mr. Abdulai is scheduled to reappear before the court on December 5, 2023.
Police Inspector Nana Akua Boatemaa, who was holding the brief for Police Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, detailed to the Court that the complainant, Mr. Alhaji Sani Suleman of Adjei Kodjo, Ashaiman, is a businessman. Mr. Abdulai, who resides in Karaga in the Northern Region, was entrusted with GH?1,815,000.00 by a witness, Hakim Ayuba, to be delivered to Mr. Suleman. However, the accused allegedly withheld GH?315,000.00 from the total amount and handed over only GH?1,500,000.00 to the complainant.
Upon discovery of the discrepancy, Mr. Suleman confronted Mr. Abdulai, who initially evaded and later promised to refund the appropriated amount. Following his failure to return the money, a formal complaint was lodged on June 29, 2023, which led to Mr. Abdulai’s arrest for investigative purposes. During the investigation, Mr. Abdulai is reported to have confessed to the offense in his caution statement.
The case is ongoing as the court awaits Mr. Abdulai’s subsequent appearance in December.
