Accra: The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Ghana has welcomed 130 new members into its ranks, emphasizing the importance of ethical leadership and the strategic integration of technology in the accounting profession. The induction ceremony, themed 'Accountancy Redefined: Shaping Future Skills,' represents a significant transition for the new members, who now join a globally recognized professional body with a presence in over 170 countries.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event highlighted the dual focus on academic achievement and professional responsibility. Colonel Carl Noble Doe Dei-Alorse, FCCA, Chairperson of the ACCA Ghana Network Panel, described the induction as a milestone that celebrates the new members' success and perseverance, while also calling them to uphold the highest standards of the profession. He noted the evolution of accounting from traditional roles to strategic functions, emphasizing that accountants are now seen as key advisors and partners in decision-making processes.
Colonel Dei-Alorse stressed the necessity for ACCA members to engage in continuous professional development to remain relevant amid rapid technological advances. He underscored the importance of accountants serving on audit committees and governing boards to enhance corporate governance and accountability.
Ms. Colette Atsu-Djadou, People Partner at KPMG Ghana, further articulated the roles of future-ready accountants, highlighting the need for them to be strategic partners, technological navigators, ethical leaders, and lifelong learners. She emphasized the reshaping of finance and business by technology and global interconnectedness, urging accountants to provide insights and influence decisions at executive levels.
Ms. Atsu-Djadou also highlighted ethics as the cornerstone of professional credibility and public trust. She identified essential competencies for today's accountants, such as digital literacy, data storytelling, and critical thinking, which are crucial for navigating Ghana's digital transformation and contributing to sustainable business growth.
In her address, Ms. Atsu-Djadou encouraged the inductees to leverage their expertise for strengthening corporate governance and supporting national development, accentuating the international recognition that ACCA membership provides.
