Gomoa: The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has unveiled plans to establish what he claims will be the largest solar energy facility in Africa, aimed at bolstering industrial growth within Ghana. In a recent interview with Ghanaian Times journalist Edem Tsortorme, A Plus emphasized the importance of affordable and reliable energy in driving his development agenda for Gomoa and attracting businesses to the nation.
According to Ghana Web, A Plus has been actively engaging with global investors to promote low-cost energy solutions in Ghana. He stated that the upcoming solar facility is anticipated to significantly lower electricity costs, thereby enhancing Ghana's appeal to investors and manufacturers. A Plus highlighted the disparity in energy expenses between Ghana and China, pointing out that China's lower electricity costs have made it a more attractive destination for manufacturing.
The MP expressed optimism about making substantial progress on the solar energy project before the year's end. He discussed his recent international travels, which were focused on drawing investment into Ghana. A Plus disclosed that he has been in discussions with various companies, including those in mobile phone manufacturing, ceramic production, and electric vehicle manufacturing, many of which have shown keen interest in investing in Ghana due to its strategic geographical location.
A Plus also underscored the importance of Ghana shifting from raw material exports to producing finished goods locally, a move he believes will create jobs and strengthen the national economy. He stated, "We want to produce goods with our raw materials so that Ghana does not continue to live in an enclave economy."
