Ashanti Police Arrest Trio in Connection with Bank Customer Robberies

Kumasi:The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended three individuals suspected to be part of a criminal syndicate responsible for a string of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding areas.

According to Ghana News Agency, the operation, conducted by the IGP's Special Team, involved personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. The suspects, two Nigerians identified as Aboy Promise, aged 30, and Favour Uwalaka, aged 45, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. They, along with another individual known as Kingsley, alias 'KC,' were found with GHS 1,600.00, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike, and a master key used to illegally access victims' vehicles.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robberies and identified two accomplices, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias 'KC.' Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate monitored bank premises to identify customers withdrawing large sums of money and subsequently trailed and robbed them.

The police operation extended to another hotel in Dechemso, leading to the arrest of Kingsley. However, Chinedu remains at large, and the police have appealed to the public for information that could lead to his capture. The suspects admitted to several robberies, including an incident at Asokore Mampong where they stole GHS15,000.00 from a victim.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged bank customers to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent future incidents. The public has been commended for their cooperation, and the police have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling criminal activities in the region.
