Taipei:Taiwan's government announced on Wednesday its intention to closely monitor developments related to the US midterm elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, Hsiao Kuang-wei, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, emphasized Taiwan's ongoing bipartisan approach in engaging with the United States. This strategy involves cultivating ties across party lines and actively promoting exchanges, a method that has received broad support from both parties in the US Congress and the US administration.
Building on this foundation, Taiwan plans to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with the United States in various sectors, including security, trade and economic affairs, technology, and education. The objective is to maintain and enhance support from the US Congress and state governments for Taiwan-US relations and issues of mutual concern.
Taiwan has operated under a self-governing system since 1949, despite China's claims over the democratic island. The United States, as Taiwan's most significant international supporter, is committed under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act to assisting the island in maintaining its defense capabilities.
