Court Dismisses Charles Bissue’s Attempt to Dismiss Corruption Charges

Accra:Former government official Charles Bissue has faced a significant setback in his legal battle as a court rejected his attempt to have corruption charges against him dismissed. The court described his legal arguments as frivolous, marking another hurdle for Bissue in his ongoing legal struggles.

According to Ghana Web, Bissue, along with Raphael Mensah and Dr. Naa Dedei Tagoe, is facing nine counts related to alleged corruption and abuse of public office. Bissue's recent challenge was based on three grounds an earlier case involving similar matters was still pending, the police had cleared him of wrongdoing, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was not authorized to investigate cases not referred by the police.

The court, in examining the first argument, requested original records from previous proceedings. The documents, dated July 3, 2025, indicated that the case had been withdrawn and struck out. However, Bissue's lawyer, Augustine Obour, contested these records, claiming he did not recall the proceedings or the presence of one of the accused.

The judge ruled that Obour's inability to recall the proceedings did not constitute grounds to dismiss the official court records. Following this, Obour withdrew his objection and requested the court accept the records. Consequently, the court found all three grounds presented by the defense to be frivolous, allowing the prosecution to continue unless further legal measures alter the situation.

Bissue has been engaged in multiple legal challenges against the investigation and prosecution since 2023. The allegations against Bissue, Mensah, and Tagoe remain unproven, with their guilt or innocence yet to be determined through the judicial process.
