Accra:Economist and member of the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy, Kwame Pianim, has expressed high regard for Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, describing her as his favourite economist. He commended her for prioritizing the impact of economic policies on ordinary Ghanaians.
According to Ghana Web, Pianim made these remarks during the launch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ (GNAT) “Thank You Teacher” National Raffle. He highlighted that the Vice-President often redirects economic discussions within the Presidential Advisory Group to consider the daily struggles of vulnerable populations.
Pianim noted that Professor Opoku-Agyemang frequently questions how macroeconomic policies benefit specific groups, such as single mothers in rural areas, women entrepreneurs, and young women working under challenging conditions. He emphasized that her focus serves as a reminder of the ultimate goal of economic policies to improve the lives of average citizens.
He further challenged Ghana’s political leaders to demonstrate greater empathy towards the poor, suggesting that even a small increase in empathy from the political elite could lead to significant national advancement. Pianim concluded by stating that such empathy could transform Ghana into a country more prosperous than Singapore within a decade.
