Joanita Borteye Aims for Success at 2026 African Table Tennis Championships

Tangier:Ghanaian table tennis player Joanita Borteye is preparing for a strong performance at the 2026 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Championships in Tangier, Morocco, from October 18 to 25.

According to Ghana News Agency, Borteye secured her spot in the continental competition through the ITTF World Rankings. She seeks to leverage her growing international experience as she competes against some of Africa's top players.

Borteye previously debuted at the senior African Championships in 2025 in Tunis, Tunisia. Her experience there is expected to provide valuable lessons as she returns to the continental stage with increased exposure to the demands of senior-level competition.

In youth table tennis, Borteye achieved notable success. In July 2026, she teamed up with Israel Aklie to win the U15 mixed doubles title at the ITTF-Africa Youth Championships in Accra, marking Ghana's first gold medal at a major African table tennis championship since 1987.

Domestically, Borteye has continued to demonstrate her potential. At the Damba Table Tennis Championship in May 2026, she claimed victories in both the Under-19 Girls' Singles and senior Women's Singles titles, defeating Cynthia Kwabi in the senior women's final. Her success across different levels of competition highlights her versatility and skill.

As Borteye prepares for the championships in Morocco, she hopes to translate her recent progress and experience into an impressive showing against the continent's established players. The competition provides another opportunity for the Ghanaian to assess her development at the senior level and strengthen her position on the international table tennis scene.
