Young Christian Workers Movement Expands Blood Donation Drive to Include Health Screenings

Accra:The Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM) of Christ the King Catholic Church has broadened its annual blood donation campaign to include health screening services. This expansion aims to promote preventive healthcare and bolster support for patients in need of blood donations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the event took place at the church's forecourt in Accra and featured voluntary blood donation services organized by the National Blood Bank of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). In addition to blood donations, the event offered eye and dental screenings, prostate screenings, and lipid profile testing.

The initiative brought together healthcare professionals and voluntary donors, supporting the national blood supply and encouraging participants to adopt proactive health measures. Ms. Emma Dei, a Senior Blood Donor Organiser at KBTH, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and urged the public to regularly donate blood voluntarily. She emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate blood stocks to ensure accessibility for patients, especially those requiring emergency and critical medical care.

Ms. Dei encouraged eligible individuals to embrace voluntary blood donations as a means of saving lives and enhancing the national blood supply. Ms. Lucy Dzata, President of YCWM, reaffirmed the movement's dedication to the annual initiative, which has been ongoing for over 15 years. She highlighted that this year's inclusion of health screenings expanded the exercise's impact, allowing participants to address their health needs while contributing to a lifesaving cause.

Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Akesse, the Parish Priest of the Church, described the exercise as an expression of the Church's commitment to compassion, solidarity, and service to humanity. The campaign is part of YCWM's longstanding community-service initiatives, underscoring the significance of voluntary blood donation, preventive healthcare, and collective efforts to enhance healthcare delivery in Ghana.
