Obuasi:The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, has revealed that 38 teachers at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) were asked to leave after raising concerns against the headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, amid allegations of sexual abuse involving female students.
According to Ghana Web, Anaba made these claims during an appearance on Joy News’ PM Express, following a report by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. The report detailed allegations of sexual misconduct affecting at least 14 students at the school.
Anaba stated that complaints about the alleged abuse have been ongoing since 2025, with concerns from students and parents predating the public attention the issue garnered in August 2026. He questioned the handling of these complaints, particularly why the teachers who spoke out were asked to leave.
He alleged that the decision to remove the teachers was communicated by the assistant headmaster, following a directive from a fact-finding committee led by the district director of education. Anaba criticized officials, including the district director, for their lack of timely intervention despite being aware of the allegations.
In response to the situation, Anaba called for a thorough investigation and accountability, urging that no individual should be shielded from the consequences due to their position. He emphasized the need for justice and protection of educational integrity in Ghana.
Anaba also called for the immediate removal of the headmaster if the allegations are found to be true, arguing that such behavior is incompatible with the responsibilities of educators. The headmaster has been reportedly suspended pending investigation, with the allegations subject to further disciplinary and legal scrutiny.
