Accra:Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has initiated new legal proceedings at the Accra High Court against two public officials, Sammy Gyamfi and Eric Adjei, for alleged defamatory remarks.
According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin's solicitor, Paa Kwesi Abaidoo, announced that fresh lawsuits have been lodged following the discontinuation of an earlier case against Eric Adjei at the Achimota Circuit Court. The new action against Adjei, encapsulated in Suit No. GJ/0061/2027, addresses comments he allegedly made on Peace FM.
Additionally, a separate writ, Suit No. GJ/0045/2027, was filed against Sammy Gyamfi on October 15, 2026. This suit pertains to statements Gyamfi reportedly made during the Government Accountability Series and on Joy FM's Newsfile programme.
The solicitor emphasized that these new suits comply with the court's recent interpretation of the rules, despite the legal team's disagreement with a prior High Court decision that dismissed an earlier writ filed on behalf of Afenyo-Markin. The earlier lawsuit against Gyamfi, which accused him of calling Afenyo-Markin an extortionist, was thrown out by the court. In that case, Afenyo-Markin had sought various forms of damages and orders for retraction and apology, as well as an injunction against further defamatory statements.
The legal team's statement concluded with the phrase, "The Mills of Justice Grind Slowly but with Great SURETY," highlighting their confidence in the judicial process.
