Northern Regional Director Questioned Over Alleged GHS71,000 Theft

Accra:It was a tense session at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) when the Northern Regional Births and Deaths Registry appeared before the committee. The focus was on the Northern Regional Director, Fuseini Damba Issifu, who was questioned about an alleged GHS71,000 cash theft.

According to Ghana Web, Fuseini Damba Issifu, who had sworn an oath to tell the truth, appeared to struggle when asked to account for the missing funds. During the session, Samuel Atta Mills, the Ranking Member of Parliament on the Public Accounts Committee, challenged Issifu's statements, questioning whether the director had received a management letter following an audit in 2025.

Issifu claimed that auditors did not provide a management letter after their audit. However, another committee member, Abena Osei-Asare, criticized Issifu for allegedly lying about the documentation and questioned his presence during the audit.

In response to the committee's scrutiny, Issifu pleaded for forgiveness for any irregularities and financial losses under his leadership, promising to take corrective measures and ensure proper follow-up with management letters in the future.
