Accra:Ghana Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized that Ghana must address the underlying economic issues that continue to challenge the nation, stating that mere stabilization of the economy is not sufficient for achieving long-term prosperity.
According to Ghana Web, while speaking at the University of Ghana, Dr. Forson advocated for a shift towards increasing local production, processing resources within the country, and creating more jobs. He emphasized the need for public policy to tackle the root causes of economic problems rather than merely addressing their symptoms.
Dr. Forson highlighted the importance of moving beyond current stability to build a more robust economic future. He urged for structural changes that would allow Ghana to add more value to its agricultural and mining outputs, thereby strengthening domestic production. This approach, he suggested, would pave the way for sustained economic growth and improve prospects for future generations.
He stressed the necessity of making decisive policy changes to prevent recurring economic pressures and to create an economy that delivers lasting benefits. Dr. Forson also called for proactive policymaking that focuses on securing opportunities for both present and future generations, noting that history favors nations that make bold decisions.
