NDC Directs Obuasi Headmaster to Withdraw from Race Amid Allegations

Obuasi:The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has instructed Zakaria Abdulai, headmaster of the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), to withdraw from the party's chairmanship race. This decision follows allegations of sexual misconduct against him and ongoing investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

According to Ghana Web, the directive was announced in a statement by the party's General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, on October 20, 2026. The directive aims to ensure a transparent and accountable process while the investigation is conducted.

The FEC emphasized that this move should not be seen as a judgment on the allegations' validity. The party reiterated its commitment to a fair investigation by the CID and expressed confidence that the inquiry will be thorough and unbiased. The outcome of the investigation will influence the NDC's future stance on the issue.

The Ashanti Regional Election Committee and the Juaben Constituency Election Committee have been notified to implement the directive. The allegations against Abdulai involve claims of sexual assault and harassment of female students, which have drawn public scrutiny. However, these remain allegations and have yet to be proven in court.
