Gold Stars and Medeama Await Ghana Premier League Prize Money

Accra:Former Ghana Football Association vice-president George Afriyie has alleged that Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC have not yet received their prize money for winning the Ghana Premier League. Gold Stars claimed the league title in the 2024/25 season, while Medeama emerged victorious in the 2025/26 campaign.

According to Ghana Web, it was announced prior to the 2025/26 season that each of the 18 Premier League clubs would be awarded GH?1 million, with the overall prize money for the season set at GH?2 million. However, Afriyie asserts that the two clubs are still waiting for their financial rewards, which has raised concerns about the timely distribution of entitlements to teams competing in both domestic and continental competitions.

Afriyie expressed worries that delays in prize money distribution could hinder clubs' preparations for international tournaments, affecting their ability to recruit players and manage travel and logistical expenses. He highlighted the risk of early elimination from continental competitions due to financial constraints if prize money is not promptly received. Afriyie's remarks were supported by Bibiani Gold Stars chief executive Akwasi Adu, who also confirmed that the promised GH?1 million payments to each Premier League club have not been fulfilled.
