Accra:The trial of Safina Mohammed Adizatu, known as Safina Diamond, is scheduled to begin on January 12, 2027, at an Accra High Court. She faces charges for the murder of her Canadian-based boyfriend, Frank Kofi Osei, whose death occurred in July 2022. The prosecution plans to call its first witness as it pursues the case against her.
According to Ghana Web, the state intends to present nine witnesses in the trial. Osei, a 37-year-old Ghanaian resident in Canada, was found dead at Ashaley Botwe in Accra while on vacation. Safina, a former student at the University of Ghana, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and is currently out on bail.
The prosecution alleges that Safina and Osei had an altercation at her apartment, leading to Osei being stabbed and strangled. The police found his body near his vehicle after receiving a report on July 26, 2022. Investigations revealed bloodstains in Safina's apartment, suggesting the body was moved from the scene.
Safina initially confessed to stabbing Osei, but later claimed she left him alive and returned to find him dead. A knife believed to be used in the incident was recovered. Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, initially implicated in moving Osei's body, was later discharged after providing an alibi.
The trial has faced delays, with several legal proceedings since the incident. The prosecution plans to present 31 exhibits, including an autopsy report and items recovered during the investigation. The trial aims to determine Safina's guilt in the murder charge, with her maintaining innocence until proven otherwise.
