Accra:Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader, has detailed the assessment process used to decide if incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) should be allowed to contest again on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) ticket.
According to Ghana Web, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that MPs are not automatically given the opportunity to run for re-election at the end of their terms. Their performance and commitment to parliamentary duties are key considerations in this decision.
He stated that MPs are evaluated from the time they enter Parliament, with aspects such as orientation, committee assignments, and performance assessments playing a role in determining their effectiveness. MPs who do not perform well are provided with directives and their willingness to improve is monitored.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that if an MP is deemed unproductive or not contributing adequately to parliamentary work, assessments may recommend that they should not contest again.
