Oyoko:Afia Birago has called on her former partner, Richard Agya Sei, to grant her a fair share of the property they accumulated during their 18-year relationship. The couple, who have three children together, separated due to disagreements over Richard's debts, domestic issues, and their jointly constructed three-bedroom house.
According to Ghana Web, Afia initiated the separation, citing that Richard's persistent debts made life unbearable after the completion of their house. This led her to leave with their children and move to her mother's residence. She explained on the Obra Show on Nyhira FM that creditors frequently visited their home to demand money from Richard, creating tension in their relationship.
Afia recounted, "We built a house together, but his attitude changed afterwards. Every day, people came to collect money he owed. I couldn't stand it anymore. One mallam even called me from Accra and warned me to be careful because my husband's debts could land us in trouble. That was when I left with the children to my mother's house."
Even though Richard has allocated one room in their three-bedroom house to Afia, she considers the arrangement insufficient, especially after learning he plans to marry another woman despite their long-term relationship without formal marriage. Richard has accused Afia of neglecting her responsibilities during their relationship, claiming that her actions made his life difficult.
Richard expressed his grievances, stating, "My wife would not communicate with me, denied me sex, refused to wash my clothes, and sometimes would not eat the food she prepared for me and the children." He explained that the situation drove him to travel to recover emotionally, only to return and find Afia had left the house.
He mentioned that he had sent elders to persuade her to return, but their attempts were unsuccessful. Richard also noted that Afia had rented out the room he initially allotted to her, questioning her continued demands for more despite the existing arrangement. Nonetheless, Richard agreed to provide Afia with an additional room in their jointly built house.
