Government Plans Major Reforms for Ghana Football Association

Accra:Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that the government plans to implement significant reforms within the football sector amidst calls from the public for the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

According to Ghana Web, Adams mentioned that although the GFA is a private entity, the government does not intend to shut it down entirely. Despite public dissatisfaction with the current state of football in the country, the government recognizes its limitations concerning private sector entities and will not dissolve the GFA.

Adams emphasized that the government is actively seeking to gain oversight of the GFA's decisions by advocating for the signing of the FIFA Cooperation Agreement. This would allow the government to influence decisions regarding national teams, which they financially support, ensuring that appropriate measures are taken and interests are protected.

He also pointed out the importance of reintroducing the public interest committee, which was previously part of the FA's statutes but was removed post-normalization. The government aims to have a more significant role in the management of national teams, including the appointment of coaches and the management structure, to ensure long-term success and accountability.

These proposed reforms are part of a broader strategy to improve the management and performance of Ghana's national teams at all levels, ensuring that the country's football sector is well-structured and effectively managed, irrespective of changes in personnel.
