Presidency Orders Suspension of NSA Director-General Over Visa Scandal

Accra:The Presidency has issued a letter ordering the suspension of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Director-General of the National Sports Authority due to a scandal involving 2026 FIFA World Cup visa allegations. The letter, signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, was dated October 1, 2026, and has recently appeared on social media.

According to Ghana Web, the suspension was implemented after allegations of visa racketeering emerged. The letter emphasizes that the suspension is an administrative measure to allow for an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department and does not suggest any wrongdoing by Ampofo Ankrah.

In the interim, Prof. Emmanuel Sarpong is set to take over as Director-General of the NSA while the investigation proceeds. Authorities are expected to work closely with investigative bodies, ensuring all procedures align with the ongoing CID investigation. Ampofo Ankrah, along with former NSA COO Yaw Gyamfi Awere and Tribe Culture Fest CEO Nana Boateng, are connected to the allegations of collecting money for visa facilitation.
