Ejisu:Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have issued a one-week ultimatum to President John Dramani Mahama to remove Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante. The assembly members have expressed dissatisfaction with her administration, citing several issues.
According to Ghana Web, the assembly members announced their decision on Friday, October 16, 2026, during a press conference. They accused Asante of ignoring assembly resolutions, mismanaging municipal affairs, and failing to address concerns about her leadership. George Kuntu Blankson, spokesperson for the group and representative of the Kwamo Electoral Area, alleged that Asante was involved in questionable practices, such as issuing a fraudulent building permit receipt with the Municipal Head of Works.
The members further accused Asante of using her official vehicle to facilitate alleged extortion by the Municipal Engineer, attempting to transfer the Municipal Finance Officer, and neglecting sanitation conditions in the municipality. They also noted interference with assembly decisions, including delays in enforcing a High Court order to demolish a building obstructing a road at Achiakrom and the removal of laterite from a wetland along the River Baffoe on the Ejisuman Senior High School road.
The issues were initially raised at a press conference on July 24, 2026, when the assembly members demanded Asante's resignation or replacement within one week. Due to the lack of a satisfactory response, they have renewed their demand for presidential intervention. Blankson emphasized that the lack of action undermines their authority and damages relations between elected representatives and the municipal administration.
