Visa Scandal Prompts Suspension of NSA Director-General

Accra:A letter from the Presidency has surfaced on social media, ordering the suspension of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) due to a scandal involving 2026 FIFA World Cup visa issues.

According to Ghana Web, the letter, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, and dated October 1, 2026, outlines the decision to suspend Ampofo Ankrah following allegations of visa racketeering. The suspension is an administrative measure to facilitate an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and does not imply any guilt.

Professor Emmanuel Sarpong has been appointed interim Director-General while the investigation is underway. The letter emphasizes the need for cooperation with investigative bodies and the preservation of the Ministry's records.

The allegations involve Ampofo Ankrah, along with former NSA Chief Operations Officer Yaw Gyamfi Awere and Tribe Culture Fest CEO Nana Boateng, in the collection of money for visa facilitation. The investigation into these allegations continues.
