Zenu Polyclinic Urges Road Improvements for Better Healthcare Access

Zenu:Dr. Derrick Amofa Boateng, the Medical Superintendent of Zenu Polyclinic, has called on the government and relevant authorities to urgently enhance the road network leading to the facility. This appeal aims to improve healthcare access, particularly for pregnant women, children, emergency cases, and other vulnerable patients, who face difficulties accessing care due to poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Boateng made this appeal at the polyclinic's 10th-anniversary celebration, which also saw the handover of a power plant to the facility by Mr. Joseph Akuerteh Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso. The polyclinic caters to approximately 200,000 people, leading to significant pressure on its existing infrastructure. The demand for maternal and newborn healthcare services continues to increase, further straining the facility.

The limited space and lack of an on-site theatre at the polyclinic restrict its ability to manage certain obstetric emergencies, necessitating patient referrals to other healthcare facilities. Plans are underway to construct a maternity block with a theatre to enhance maternal healthcare delivery, improve the management of obstetric emergencies, reduce delays, and ensure safer deliveries with better outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Dr. Boateng has appealed to the government, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, and corporate organizations for support in strengthening the polyclinic's capacity to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community.
