Mahama Urges New Ghanaian Ambassador to Angola to Focus on Reparatory Justice

Accra:President John Dramani Mahama has directed Ghana's newly appointed Ambassador to Angola, Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo, to work closely with Angola to maintain international focus on reparatory justice.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama emphasized the importance of building on the United Nations General Assembly's recognition of the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement as a grievous crime against humanity. He urged a meaningful engagement with the consequences of this history and the pursuit of justice.

The charge was given during a formal commissioning ceremony at the Presidency in Accra, where Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo and three other newly appointed envoys were officially inaugurated. The other envoys are Mr. Louis Kwame Obeng, Ambassador to Qatar; Mrs. Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, Ambassador to Israel; and Mr. Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, Ghana's Permanent Representative to Geneva, Switzerland.

Additionally, the President tasked Nana Dodoo with organizing the Seventh Session of the Ghana-Angola Joint Commission for Cooperation in 2027, focusing on practical collaboration opportunities and ensuring sustained follow-up on agreed commitments.

As Ghana prepares to assume the Chairmanship of the African Union in 2027, Mahama pointed out the importance of cooperation with Angola in strengthening African priorities and advancing shared positions. Enhanced diplomatic engagement is vital for promoting Africa's development agenda and addressing mutual interests.
