Kwasi Kwarteng Questions Delayed Interdiction of Obuasi Headmaster in Misconduct Case

Obuasi:Former Education Ministry spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng has raised significant concerns over the handling of sexual misconduct allegations against Zakaria Abdulai, the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School. Abdulai faces accusations from 14 female students, detailed in an upcoming documentary by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, and has been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to Ghana Web, Kwarteng questioned why the interdiction of Abdulai was delayed despite earlier reports and a student uprising at the school. He called on the Education Minister and the GES Director-General to clarify the events leading up to the interdiction, emphasizing that the issue should not end with Abdulai's suspension.

Kwarteng highlighted concerns dating back to February, questioning whether prior allegations during Abdulai's tenure at Toase Senior High School were investigated before his transfer to Obuasi. He also questioned whether public pressure was necessary before disciplinary action was taken and compared the response to previous actions under former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwarteng expressed concern over Abdulai’s potential political affiliations, noting the importance of transparency in the investigation. He stressed that understanding why the system relied on a journalist to initiate action is crucial to addressing the broader issues at play.
