Zenu Polyclinic Urges Improvements to Road Access

Zenu:Dr. Derrick Amofa Boateng, the Medical Superintendent of Zenu Polyclinic, has called upon the government and relevant authorities to urgently enhance the road network leading to the facility. This improvement is crucial for facilitating better access to healthcare services.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Boateng highlighted that the current state of the roads poses significant challenges for pregnant women, children, emergency cases, and other vulnerable patients, particularly during the rainy season. These conditions can hinder emergency responses and complicate access to necessary healthcare.

The appeal was made during the celebration of the polyclinic's 10th anniversary, which also included the presentation of a power plant to the facility by Mr. Joseph Akuerteh Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso. The polyclinic caters to an estimated population of 200,000 people, creating a high demand for its existing maternal and newborn healthcare services.

Dr. Boateng noted that the limited space and lack of an on-site theatre at the polyclinic restrict its ability to handle certain obstetric emergencies, necessitating referrals to other health facilities. To address this, plans are underway to construct a maternity block with a theatre, aiming to enhance maternal healthcare delivery.

The proposed maternity block is expected to improve the management of obstetric emergencies, reduce delays, and ensure safer deliveries, ultimately leading to better outcomes for mothers and newborns. Dr. Boateng has appealed to the government, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, and corporate organizations to support this project, which is essential for meeting the healthcare needs of the area's growing population.
