Accra:The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has called on its customers to cooperate with Franchise Officers to ensure the delivery of quality services.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Ashanti West Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, explained that Franchise Officers, who were formerly meter readers, have been assigned additional responsibilities. These include not only meter reading but also disconnecting illegal connections and customers who owe arrears.
Furthermore, Franchise Officers are tasked with monitoring prepaid meters through customer visits and distributing bills. This initiative, piloted in Abuakwa and Suame Districts in 2025, aims to enhance revenue mobilization and service quality, and has now been extended to all districts in the Ashanti West Region.
Mr. Antwi noted challenges arising from customers' reluctance to allow Franchise Officers to perform their duties, which has adversely affected revenue collection and service quality. He emphasized that the officers' credibility can be confirmed through their Identification Cards and signed authorization letters, which include contact numbers for their respective districts.
He urged customers not to make any payments to Franchise Officers, as collecting money is not part of their duties regarding disconnections due to arrears or illegal connections. Mr. Antwi reassured the public of ECG's commitment to providing quality service in the region and throughout the country.
However, Mr Antwi encouraged customers to download the ECG PowerApp or use the short code *226# to make payments to the ECG if need be.
