Accra:Bangkok The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has praised Ghana for its successful economic recovery and urged other nations to follow its example under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme. During a meeting with Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, IMF's African Department Director, Mr. Zeine Zeidane, highlighted the country's improved economic position.
According to Ghana News Agency, the IMF has adjusted Ghana's growth forecast for 2026 from 4.6% to 5.7%, placing it among the top ten fastest-growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Zeidane commended Ghana for its effective use of artificial intelligence in customs administration, which has significantly boosted monthly customs revenue by approximately US$100 million since its implementation in April 2026.
Mr. Zeidane also noted the positive impact of reforms in state-owned enterprises, which saw total revenue rise to GHS176.43 billion in 2025, marking a 28.12% increase from the previous year. Additionally, he welcomed the reduction in Ghana's debt-to-GDP ratio to 45% as of June 2026, following stock-flow adjustments.
Finance Minister Dr. Forson reiterated the government's commitment to fiscal discipline and reforms, expressing optimism that Ghana's growth would surpass the IMF's revised forecast. He emphasized the pursuit of investment and financing opportunities under the New Economy agenda, which aims to enhance value addition, industrialization, global competitiveness, and job creation.
