Accra:The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has announced that records for over 51,000 teachers, who were recently promoted, have been validated and are being prepared for placement on their new salary grades. This development follows a directive from the Ghana Education Service (GES), which required eligible teachers from the 2026 promotion exercise to verify their application status by October 15, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, this validation process is a crucial step towards the payment of salary arrears owed to the promoted teachers. Kingsley Ayimadu, PRETAG's National Communication Director, expressed confidence that the government would adhere to its promise of settling these arrears.
Ayimadu explained that the validation involves confirming the current status of teachers at their schools before any payments are made. While the payments have not yet been deposited into accounts, the validation portal indicates forthcoming payments. He further clarified that the arrears are expected to be included in the October salary, which will be available by October 16.
Teachers whose records have been validated should not anticipate an additional payment at the end of October, as the arrears are part of the October salary. This validation exercise is essential to ensure that teachers qualifying for promotion in 2026 are appropriately placed on the new salary scales and receive their due arrears.
