Accra:Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, has advised political figures to learn from the recent imprisonment of Chairman Wontumi. He emphasized the temporary nature of power and urged those in authority to exercise caution in its use.
According to Ghana Web, Baba Jamal highlighted that power is not ultimate but transient, suggesting that individuals in positions of authority should be mindful of accountability. He remarked on the inevitability of a "day of accountability" and urged caution regardless of one's position, whether as a chief, politician, or Member of Parliament.
He used Chairman Wontumi's situation as a cautionary tale, noting that Wontumi, at one time, might have believed there would be no consequences. Baba Jamal reflected on the gradual process of justice, expressing hope that Wontumi can endure his sentence and adequately defend himself if necessary.
Chairman Wontumi has been sentenced to twenty years in prison. His legal team has filed for bail pending an appeal, with a court ruling on this application expected on November 4, 2026.
