Moody’s Upgrades Ghana’s Credit Rating to B3 with Stable Outlook

Baku:Moody's Ratings has upgraded Ghana's sovereign credit rating from Caa1 to B3. This improvement is attributed to sustained enhancements in domestic financing conditions, reduced government borrowing costs, and ongoing fiscal discipline as Ghana recovers from the 2022 debt crisis.

According to Ghana Web, the rating agency has also revised Ghana's outlook from positive to stable. This change reflects confidence in the country's recent credit profile improvements, though further upgrades are not anticipated in the near future.

Moody's latest assessment, dated October 9, 2026, emphasizes the government's increased capability to fulfill its financial obligations compared to the previous Caa1 rating. The agency highlighted that easing domestic financing conditions have lowered borrowing costs and improved debt affordability, alleviating pressures on public finances.

Despite external challenges, including the economic impact of the Middle East conflict, Ghana's borrowing costs have remained relatively contained. Moody's attributes the country's resilience to ongoing fiscal discipline, stronger institutions, and favorable export prices, which have bolstered government revenues and overall macroeconomic stability.

While the rating upgrade is a positive development, Ghana remains within Moody's speculative-grade category and has yet to achieve investment-grade status due to ongoing fiscal, financial, and external vulnerabilities.
