Baku:Henry Nana Boakye, the Second Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Nana B, has refuted claims that he sought to retain his service passport with the assistance of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
According to Ghana Web, Nana B clarified in an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem that his sole request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was for help in transferring existing visas from his former service passport to his ordinary passport. He questioned the logic behind the allegations, asking how he, as an opposition party executive, could exert undue pressure on the minister to grant him an exemption.
Nana B explained that he made the request in March 2025 while preparing for a trip and needed assistance with the visa transfer. He mentioned that the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, serving on Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, informed him about contacting Ablakwa to facilitate the transfer. However, the process was considered too bureaucratic, leading Nana B to abandon the request and travel with his normal passport instead.
He further questioned the intentions behind the resurfacing of this issue, asserting that the request was never about retaining his service passport. His comments came in response to allegations by the Majority Caucus on Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, which claimed that the Bosome Freho MP attempted to pressure Ablakwa for a special exemption for Nana B to continue using the service passport, despite a presidential directive requiring former officeholders to surrender their diplomatic and service passports.
