Obuasi SHS Headmaster Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct

Obuasi:A female student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School claims she was a victim of sexual misconduct by the school's headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. The student has recounted an incident where the headmaster allegedly slapped her when she informed him she was menstruating.

According to Ghana Web, a video shared by JoyNews features at least two female students describing how they were allegedly coerced into sexual activities by Abdulai. One student stated that the headmaster forcibly checked her underpants, slapped her, and coerced her into sexual acts, despite her claim of menstruating. Another student detailed her experience of being forced into sexual activity after a struggle with the headmaster.

In response to these allegations, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has suspended the headmaster pending an investigation. The Ministry has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to look into the matter, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations.

The Ministry of Education has expressed its commitment to ensuring the safety of students and maintaining high standards of conduct in educational institutions. A statement issued by the Ministry, signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, highlighted the responsibility of teachers to protect students in their care, rather than abusing them. The Ministry and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have stated they will not tolerate such misconduct.
