New Passport Office Planned for Ashanti Region by 2027

Ashanti Mampong:The Ashanti Region is set to receive a new Passport Application Centre by the first quarter of 2027, as announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. During a visit to the region's existing Passport Application Centre, Ablakwa highlighted the significant pressure on the current facility due to the area's large population.

According to Ghana Web, the new centre will be located in Ashanti Mampong and is designed to alleviate the strain on the existing office. It will improve access to passport services and reduce the risks and inconvenience for applicants who currently travel long distances for biometric appointments.

The addition of this new facility will provide an alternative for residents, complementing the existing Passport Application Centre. It is part of a broader effort to expand passport services and enhance service delivery across the country.

The Ashanti Mampong centre will join the seven centres opened last year in the Upper East Region and the six in newly created regions. This expansion aims to bring passport services closer to applicants, easing the burden on existing facilities and streamlining the application process.

Ablakwa expressed optimism that the new office would contribute to increasing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' internally generated funds once operational. The centre is expected to be fully functional by early 2027.
